An Ode to Platt Hall // Spencer

Our Gallery Assistant Spencer, who used to work every weekend at the Gallery of Costume - Platt Hall,  has written an ode in honour of it's heritage and value in the city. Spencer shows how Platt Hall will be sorely missed during it's temporary closure.

So long my bold faced beauty,

so long sun baked bricks,

and pastoral pillars.

Stone floors and wooden doors,

your radiant red face,

greeted us as old friends,

through rain, fog, shine or snow.

Beyond that emerald gate,

holds the greatest treasure

in town.

Beyond that stone threshold,

holds a part of my home.

You preserve a treasure,

worth more than its weight in gold,

You hold a history seldom told.

What you give is more than a gallery,

it was a place for old friends to meet,

a place to rest after a game to rest your feet.

You were a palace in a park for the people.

Hidden behind your solid walls were where legends come on display

Quant, Schiaparelli, Dior

Beyond your displays was so much more in store.

Your archives hold beauties unbeheld for

far too long,

What you have in store was never fully exhibited,

the cards in your hand never shown the whole deck.

So until your doors open again,

So long my bold faced beauty,

So long my friend,

So long Platt hall.
